Alcohol Withdrawal

Alcohol withdrawal is one of the most medically serious. Symptoms can begin within hours of the last drink and may include life-threatening seizures in people with severe dependency.

IMPORTANT: Alcohol withdrawal can be life-threatening. Do NOT stop drinking suddenly if you are heavily dependent without medical support. Call your GP or Frank (0300 123 6600) before stopping.

Symptoms
  • Anxiety and restlessness
  • Mild shaking (tremors)
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Sweating
  • Elevated heart rate
Advice: Seek medical review at this stage if dependent. Stay hydrated. Do not drink more alcohol to manage symptoms.
